The name of the arena was changed to the "Rice Lake Hockey Arena".  While the idea behind the original name of "Barron County Sports Center" was to have county-wide involvement, the facility was basically a Rice Lake project, and the Rice Lake Hockey Association assumed operation of it.  However, skaters from throughout the county still use the facility.

In the summer of 1985, Moore's foods of Rice Lake generously donated $10,000 towards the outdoor, winter and summer skating facility.
