Who are we? The Rice Lake Hockey Association is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization founded in 1969 with roots dating back to the 1920s. We strive to provide a FUN, affordable, educational and competitive hockey environment for its players and members.
Who can participate? Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association has strict rules regarding association boundaries, but boys and girls ages 4 and up from Rice Lake, Cameron and Birchwood school districts are welcome to play.
Does your child need to know how to skate? NO! Our Learn to Skate program is available for our youngest players and for older players just learning to skate.
What hockey level will your child skate with? Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs are available for our youngest players and older players just learning to skate. Generally: Learn to Play/Skate are ages 3-4, U6 Mini Mites are ages 5-6, 8U Mites are ages 7-8; 10U Squirts are ages 9-10; 12U Pee Wees are ages 11-12; and 14U Bantams are ages 13-14.
When do you practice? The Learn to Play/Skate program starts in early November with two sessions per week. Older levels typically practice twice a week starting in mid-October.
Do I need equipment? Our Learn to Skate, Learn to Play and Mite players are provided with most equipment and will earn a stick as they progress through the Learn to Skate/Learn to Play program. Older players usually have their own equipment, however, if there is a need we are usually able to outfit most kids. We will also provide goalie equipment to kids in the youth program who desire to play goalie!
Will your child have fun? You bet! We believe skaters learn best when they are having fun. During the year, team parents organize pizza parties, rink rat skate nights and other events, including a team party at the end of the season. LTS/LTP & Mite players are usually invited to skate between periods of a RLHS varsity game.
How much does it cost? Kids under the age of 6 are FREE. The cost varies by age for those older than 6. If there is a financial difficulty that prohibits you from registering your son/daughter please let us know! We want all kids who desire to play hockey - to play hockey!
How do I register my child? Go to the registration tab on the website and follow the instructions. You will also be able to attend an information and registration session which will be held in September. Watch our Facebook page as information is posted there and on our website.

Hockey Truths!
Lots of kids play! Rice Lake is one of more than 90 youth hockey associations statewide. In Rice Lake alone there were more than 100 kids participating in hockey last year.
Girls can play too! Currently Rice Lake has several girls that play on our youth teams. Although we do not have a WIAA high school girls team, many move on to play for area girls co-op teams once they age out of the youth program. Two of our Rice Lake girls even played for the State Champion girls team in 2016!
Hockey is exciting to play and watch! For both the players on the ice and parents in the stands, hockey games are fast and exciting!
Everybody is part of the action! Unlike some youth sports, there aren’t just a few kids in the key positions. In hockey everyone shares in the fun and action. A youth hockey team generally fields (and needs) twice as many kids as a basketball team, and everybody plays! That is huge!
Hockey is for all sizes! You don’t have to be big to play hockey well. Whether you’re big or small, any player can contribute to the success of their team.
Hockey is a lifetime sport! Men and women of all ages play in recreational hockey leagues for years and decades after leaving youth hockey.

RLHA History
Former Rice Lake businessman, Foster Friess, agreed to match donations for the remodel of the arena. In total, $310,000 was raised to remodel the shower rooms, remodel the men's and women's restrooms to make them ADA compliant, insulate the roof with spray foam, install an e-liner and install a new dehumidification system and heaters. In addition, the Blue Line Room was remodeled and additional changing rooms were added underneath the bleachers on the North side of the rink.
